Beach House White kitchens and The recipe

Well thank you to all the beautiful gals who visited to celebrate my grandma's 100th with me. More here  Your comments really touched me, so thank you.  I am trying to get back to you all individually, but as you would know, being a 'journalist' in your own kitchen,  takes up heaps of time.  Some have said it is like a full time job, without the pay and I would have to agree.

The Beach House Brats and Mr Beach House as well, are complaining.  The resident slave (that's me..... OK you already got it) is making some time for herself and they are up in arms.  Oh well, they will get used to their new world order soon. I figure in 10 years or so, I may be lucky to get a call on Sundays from the BHB's and Mr BH will be sailing (more here), so I might as well make plans for my future happiness now.

Now this was going to be a relatively short post, so I better get on with it.   The Recipe is down below for all of you, who are here for that.   But, as we are on the subject of food....... I just wanted to say a little something about white kitchens.  I for one, love them.  Some denounce them as a little clinical.

But really, I would rather see them as a clear palate, upon which to strut my stuff.  A Coca Cola vintage box here, a bespoke basket full of shells and coral there.

I'm definitely going to get me one of those cute little windows in the shot above, when and if, I ever do my next kitchen reno.  Mr Beach House if you are reading this, try and scrape yourself off the floor.  I know you just fell off your chair.

So what ever your choice of jushing, (oh my, can anyone help me spell that word I use about 100  times daily?)

I say it will always look better in a white kitchen.

And here's grandma's chocolate birthday cake recipe.  The Beach House Brats are still enjoying this in their school lunches. One way I guess, they can have a piece of their wonderful great granny.

Grandma's Chocolate Tart
BASE
1  250g packet of chocolate biscuit.  I use tiny teddys, but I have to hide them from the BHBs
100g butter melted
Process biscuits mix in melted butter.  Press into greased pie plate. Refidgerate until needed.
FILLING
200g milk chocolate I use cadburys cooking chocolate
125g melted butter
Half cup caster sugar
1tspn vanilla essence
4 eggs
30g cocoa sifted

Melt chocolate in a small bowl over a saucepan of simmering water..... allow to cool slightly.
In another bowl place butter, sugar, vanilla and 1 egg, blend until pale and creamy. Add the chocolate mixture and blend until smooth
Place remaining 3 eggs in another bowl and whisk until pale and thick.  Add the chocolate mixture and cocoa and whisk to combine.
Place the pie plate on a baking tray and pour the chocolate filling into the prepared crust.  Bake at preheated oven, at 180 C  for 40 minutes.
Dust with icing sugar and serve warm or at room temp with double cream or ice cream

Well I am off to resume resident slave duties.  The sun is shining and the laundry door has my name written all over it.  Hope I get out some time soon.

Lots a Love 'til tomorrow
Carolyn

  4. Hi Carolyn. Love your blog. These pictures are really helpful to me. Our kitchen in antique white, and modern looking. I am finding myself being led too far off track from the coastal beach look I love. Your post has helped me bring my focus back. Thanks.

    Cheers,
    Lisa x
