Beach House's True Loves

I have had very little time for blogging this week, as I have been spending lots time with the people I love.

Mr Beach House..... lots of our wedding photos look like this, with him not co-operating. I've stopped worrying about it now.   I have learnt that I can't give him any direction as he just does the opposite.
Also spending time with the Beach House Brats at family dos.

and with my mum,
going to the theatre
and eating at Sushi Train.

I'm hoping these shots of mine will pass muster as a tablescape this week. As you know I am trying my best to give the Beach House Brats lots of life experiences, so pulling them out of school for the day for lunch and a trip to the theatre with grandma and mummy is my idea of a real treat.

The fact that this was organised six months ago and happened to fall on the day of the school excursion was a little controversial, but we went ahead anyway.
Believe me I have used the threat of cancelling this trip for 2 weeks to flush out the kiddos' best behaviour.  And although the psychologists amongst us would call that bad parenting,  I have to tell you it has worked just fine for us. Not sure what I'm gunna use now.  But I'll think of something.
This was a nifty way to raise $$$$ for the tsunami in Japan.

The Beach House Brat's eyes are out on sticks by this stage.
I love the efficiency of the Japanese.  At the end of the meal they just tot up the used plates.  As you know we are on tight budget this month so it was a great way to keep track of how much lunch would cost.

I also wanted to mention that my friends and I have also been celebrating life this week.  I went to this party, last weekend, which was a celebration of the end of chemo for a fantastic gal, who I often refer to as the nicest woman in town.
Now I hate fancy dress parties and my friend knows it.  But she said stuff it!! I haven't had any hair for most of the year so the least you can do is wear a wig compared to what I've been through.  I don't know whether it was just the fact that we only had to come up with a wig and it was so funny seeing everyone that way, but I have to say this was the most fun fancy dress party I have been too.  And let me say there have been lots over the years.
She just went for a routine mammogram, which came back positive.  Her advice on the night, was just get out there and have one.... no excuses.  She tells it something like this....  I was just having some wine and cheese with some friends one night and was informed in passing that the Breast Scan bus had come to town.  I basically went along thinking nothing of it and that test has saved my life.

So in the interests of spending time with the ones you love, it's something to think about.
Best Carolyn

  1. That wig party is just the best idea! If ever there was a thing to celebrate, eh?

Also, I'm happy to see Polly Pockets are still being played with. I had one when I was a little girl. Made me smile.

  2. This is serious stuff. I've known to many gals with postive outcomes. My mother-in-law survived breast cancer at 80. The photo of the day goes to little Miss Beach House Brat. She is adorable.

  3. If choosing between blogging and spending time with loved ones, you definitely made the BEST choice. Your kids are just too adorable for words.

Donate a Plate for Japan — great idea!

The wig party is also a wonderful idea and it was so interesting to read how the scan truck came to town at just the right time to save your friend's life. What a blessing a a good reminder for the rest of us.

I want to thank you for your comment on my Memorial Day post, I had no idea about the connection between Australia and America during WWII and it was so interesting to learn. We are a global society and depending on each other in time of need is a wonderful way to celebrate life!
