A Call From Paris

Hi Gals and Malcolm
Yes that's right..... there is at least one man out there.  I know, cause he called Mr Beach House from Paris last night to say among other things, that he is reading my blog.  He is an Aussie ex pat friend of the old boy. Apparently he particularly likes the bits about Mr Beach House.  I must say  my darling husband is my greatest muse and at the risk of losing a few of my serious decor followers....... next week I am going to put up my top ten tips  towards a happier marriage.
Now those of you who know me in the non virtual world, will know our marriage is light years away from being perfect, but as we are coming up for ten years married, I am going to share with you what I think has made it work so far.  I even threw the question open at the playgroup I go to with the second Beach House Brat and got a few extra tips which I hadn't thought of. So come back on Monday if you want to see what I have found out.
But today we are talking yellow flowers.  My regulars know I am a fan of yellow. You can read another of my yellow posts here if you care to.  The reason I say yellow flowers, is because  the store in which I bought these, was calling them John Quills. I thought John Quills were the much paler yellow ones with double petals and that these were mini daffs. But who cares what they are called. They are pretty, they smell divine and they are all over my house today.
The first way I have arranged them is on one of these spikey thingys. They will only stand up like this for a few days, but they look superb. When they start to droop, just shove them back into a conventional vase and they last another week. I saw this years ago in a home for sale. I then went on a mission to find a suitable dish and that spiky thing...again I'm sure they have a name but I can't remember it today!!!!!! This arrangement literally takes five minutes to style and the effect is very simple and elegant.

Throwing these babies into a beautiful French Provincial jug is another option.

But my personal favourite is all lined up in a row with a single stem.  These are actually shot glasses I picked up at the local Red Cross Shop yesterday.  Last night when Mr Beach House came in, they were lined up on the mantel in a flowerless state.  Amazingly he picked them as shot glasses, or maybe not so amazing come to think of it.  They are supposed to take vodka.  They came with a bottle holder which had vodka etched on the side, but I left that with the Red Cross.

This little print identifies these flowers as Narcissus Ambergate.  So I am no closer to knowing their common name without your input dear reader.
And as for the call from Paris....Mr Beach House's most memorable post phone call comment..... 'Oh I had better start reading it, hadn't I??'.  Yikes!!!!  Maybe I'll need a few more happy marriage tips from others if he does!!!!!
