Make a Snow Dome on a Cake Stand

Wanna know how to entertain the rug rats on Christmas morning while you're wrangling the turkey through the oven door and generally working your hands to the bone, all the while trying to keep it together with what's left of your oh so frayed nerves?  Why not get them to create a super sized snow dome on a cake stand. If you don't have one, a cloche on a plate would be just as effective. If you can over look the chaos factor and just let them get on with it, it's guaranteed to free you up for an hour or so.

You can make it with any Christmasy bits you have lying around, you could even lay the baking out on this for Christmas lunch.

The foam packaging from all those unwrapped electronics  is going to get shredded anyway if it's anything like the Beach House on Christmas morning, so why not put it all to good use.  Just quietly, I think the paper ripping and the ceremonial trashing of the foam pulled from the latest electronic gift, is the Beach House Brat's fav bit of Christmas morning anyway.

Now I promise you these kind of twee Victorian scenes are not my thing, I'm more into the coastal Christmas look going on here right now, but my kiddos love this kind of thing and I had them working like busy little beavers this morning before school drop off making the snow.

There was still some of it on the floor, but most went into the bowls they were provided with.  If you do decide to do this on Christmas morning or any time for that matter, do the making bit well away from the  displaying bit, otherwise apart from all your other duties at Christmas time, you may find you are doing way more vacuuming than you bargained for.  Much better to just shut the door on all the mess until you feel like cleaning it up.  Better still, teach the kiddos where to plug in the vaccy. I'm still working on that one!!!!

Our snow dome took on a 'Victorian Sunday afternoon in the park' twist, as that's the stuff I had in boxes inherited from one of my mother's Christmas' past, but snow men or a nativity would work just as well.

And the best thing is, the kiddos will love it and think you are such a fun mummy to hang out with .  Once they get into the foam deconstruction part you can sneak off to surf your favourite blogs without any interruptions for some time.

My little one had a great time unwrapping all the tissue paper clad ornaments as well.

Not sure if this one will make it to Christmas Day, as I'll probably need the cake stand, but for now it is in the living room, which is looking more and more crowded as December moves on.
