Merry Christmas

We've had a lovely week at the Beach House.  Very little of it to do with Christmas.  Someone turned 60, so we put on a party for 80 or so guests at the yacht club.  During the speeches, I said I had something to say and that I had regretted not saying anything at his 50th, for the last 10 years.  During my speech I burst into tears........I hadn't realised I liked my husband that much.

The catering was wonderful and if anyone wants a good tip Harvest Store and Kitchen in Newport is terrific and quite reasonably priced for what we got. Here's a small example.

Peking Duck Pancakes

Roast Beef with Bernaise
The Birthday Cake

Then there was a wedding anniversary in the house, so I booked a city hotel and we made a night of it

With the kids in tow.

They are alot of fun and pretty well behaved and it's easier to take them with us.

Whilst in the city, we visited Martin Place, to see the big Christmas tree.

To pay our respects to the fallen.

And to see the DJ's windows.

We dined at Bill and Tony's in Darlinghurst.  It was good to see nothing much has changed there since my university days.  The food is still very good for the price and the endless carafe of free cordial and bowl of lettuce salad are still on tap.

Afterwards we walked up to St Mary's Cathedral to watch the Lights of Christmas.

It was completely wonderful and so good to see Sydney as defiant as ever, after the events of last week.

The next day we hung around the pool and after checking out, took a quick trip over to the Cenotaph, which we had been looking at from our hotel room and resolved that none of us had been inside.  There is a nice museum and film on the bottom level if you are ever in the area.

It was a lovely 24 hours.

Again it has been another year to be grateful for.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all and may 2015 be everything you want it to be.

  3. Happy 60th to Mr Beach House. It looks like you put on a great party and those Peking duck pancakes look very good. And the cake is beautifully decorated too. Happy Anniversary as well and it was nice the children were able to share the celebration. I love to spend time in the city before Christmas and look at the DJs windows (didn't think much of them this year) and see all the lights and sites. Happy New Year, Caro, to you and all your family xx
