Pelican Pavilion Collaroy

The Pelican Pavilion may be an annexure to the Collaroy Hotel, but this cafe is no after thought.  If not for the waves and the odd misplaced high rise along the beach, you might be mistaken that you are sitting somewhere in the Greek Isles.  I recently met a girlfriend here for lunch. When she walked in, Amanda was blown away by the location and decor.

The catering is simple and fresh and although the food is not ground breaking, it is of little consequence.  This place is all about the the three Ps, Position, Position, Position.  Despite the food and service being low key, the coffee is good and being by the seaside, means that hardly seems to matter.

Little kids are well catered for, with a cute beachy sandpit and kid sized fish and chips and burger options at $10.  They even have a kids sized milk shake, which is very generous and at only $4.50 presents as great value.  I've reluctantly paid up to $8 for the same thing, in locations with a less magnificent view.

There is some well placed bench seating over looking the beach, where you can sit and watch the world go by.  Opportunities for that scenario seem few and far between in my world at the moment, so I will be back when given the chance.
Don't worry if you forget the sunscreen, as the cafe provides that too.

You cannot beat Sydney's Northern Beaches on a beautiful day. Lots of space, fabulous people and oh those vistas.  It's days like these which make you feel like you are on holiday and all only 15 minutes from home.  It was the break I needed.
