La Pingouin Bar and Restaurant Clamart Paris

Do you get the feeling I am pining for another Summer in France?  If so, you would be right. Not touristy France, but the real France, dining on simple fare cooked by the locals.  Lunching here is just one such dining experience we recently enjoyed, thanks to Malcolm's inside knowledge of Paris.

This was a quaint restaurant, just around the corner from his home. When he was renovating, he would take the tradies here for lunch.  Lucky them.

It was a kind of table d'hote affair, which suits me down to the ground. Choices are limited but as my hips know only too well, I will eat practically anything, so taking the work out of deciding what to eat, suits me very well.  In fact, if I was ever to open a restaurant, it would be just like this.  Facing onto a suburban street, using a couple of the front rooms of my house, as the bar and dining room. Offering a buffet style entre table, a choice of two mains and desserts is the way to go. It would be simple, manageable, delicious and very authentic, just like Le Pingouin.

On offer the day we were there, was some lovely fresh salad, fish and chacuterie for entree.

All beautifully homemade and simple.

The main was a choice between a provincal chicken or beef dish served with yummy crisp potatoes.

With apple tart for dessert.  All superbly made with love.

This was all only 11 Euro per person, but Malcolm tells me it has now been increased to around 15 Euro.  Still not bad for 3 generous courses and bread.  Wine and coffee are extra and still very reasonable.

Another totally cool way to spend an afternoon in Paris.

  3. Hi Caro, I haven't been getting email notifications of new posts so I thought you must have taken a break from blogging! Thanks for letting me know about the issue with my blog. I have no idea how to fix it. I have taken the problem to an IT person and they can't work it out so I'm back to square one. It's very annoying especially as it came from no where and there doesn't seem to be a solution. I love the crispy potatoes and how simple and no-frills this French meal is. Your family must have had the best time in Paris xx

Those potatoes look delicious. I'd love to know how to get mine to look like that.

  6. Oh I would love a summer in France too. I think one of the greatest things about travelling is finding those non-touristy places were the locals hang out. That is where you really get to experience culture #teamIBOT
