Baked Figs with Prosciutto and Goats Cheese

Just a quickie from me today as the window of opportunity for figs, though delectable, is short and oh so sweet. I find figs are best eaten simply, as the French and Italians do it.  I was recently inpired, when I dined out with my three longest standing girlfriends for dinner.  The Italian restaurant served them with Gorgonzola, which worked equally as well as Danish feta/goats cheese, which is what I have used here

Gorgeous Avalon Beach House

Woohoo this sure is one lovely Avalon Beach House.  The best features for me are the alfresco bar and paved  entertaining area.  The real stand wow factor is the funky light fittings.  This house is all class and just a short flat walk to beach and village.  More details here.

Historic House Exteriors

I love the irony around the Historic Houses of Hobart.  Tasmania has not always had the economic opportunities of the states on the mainland of Australia, thus forcing it to retain alot of it's old buildings through necessity. That concept has paid dividends and meant that Tassie has a plethora of heritage listed buildings and streetscapes.  As a lover of history and houses, a city like Hobart is paradise to someone like me.  Take a look.  I trust you will be inspired.

I Stand For Mercy #IStandForMercy

Hello Beach Dwellers

I am devastated that these executions are moving rapidly forward like a train wreck.  Putting these men to death in such a brutal and cruel way, far outways their crime, which was grave indeed, but they have paid with a decade of incarceration and have been reformed and helped others to do the same.

Lets face it we've all done something we are ashamed of.  Forgiveness is liberating.

Please make yourself heard before it's too late, by sharing this message in anyway you can.  If not for them, then for their mothers and families  Thank You from the bottom of my heart.

Things to Do in Hobart Tasmania

There are many reasons to visit Hobart, Tasmainia and the biggest one for me, is the history.  Hobart was settled by Europeans in 1803 and was actually the second British settlement in Australia after Sydney.  The beginnings of Hobart came about because, in typical style, the Brits were worried about France establishing a settlement and blocking important southern shipping lanes.  I kind of wish that a French settlement had arisen, as I think that might have been good for the Tasmainian tourist industry today.  But it was not to be.  Hobart was a very British outpost and the colonists have left their British stamp, all over the city.
The irony is, that Tasmania is one of Australia's less affluent states.  As a result, they were forced to keep alot of their historic buildings, when the likes of Sydney and Melbourne were mowing them down  in the 1960's and 1970's, to build boxy glass sky scrapers.  That happy fact in Hobart, has resulted in a charmingly historic cityscape and lots of interest for a visitor.
