Simple Food Ideas for a LIttle Girls Party and a Pretty Party Table

Thanks goodness a girl has a birthday party but once a year.  Believe it or not I absolutely love putting this kind of thing together, but I always run out of time at the end.  So I made it as simple as possible by purchasing things such as, ready made frosting, packet cakes, popcorn, strawberries and pretzels.
I got the idea for the netting from Deanne over at Five Brothers One SisterYou can see the inspiration shot here

I made the doily cupcake wrappers only this time for smaller cakes.  If you'd like to see how go here.

The pretty liitle cupcakes became the birthday cake, which I arrranged on a cup cake tree and placed on a pink wrapped box. If you want some other easy birthday cake ideas that kids will love, go here Looking at the shots, I could have tied a ribbon around to box too.  Next time people, next time!!!!!  Believe me there is always another one of these parties just over the hill or so it seems!!!!

I'm a sucker for bunting and this time I used some beautiful crochet bunting I picked up from Crayon Chick for the front of the table

The popcorn looked cute in these little Smick containers.  Our local $2 store is holding more and more of the Smick party ware, which I love.

I have been wanting an excuse to make cake pops for a while now and I thought they'd be easier than they were.  Luckily there were only 7 little guests, and after putting 10 of these together, I decided to use the remainder of the truffle like balls I originally made for the cake pops, to make the cupcakes on the tree stand instead.  We absolutely go for simple here Beach Dwellers. The truffles were easy to make and there was no need for a cake pop maker, as you just roll them onto balls. The tricky bit was getting the chocolate not to slide off the ball once it was on the pop stick. The way to overcome the chocolate getting gluggy and sliding of the cake ball, is to put a dash of cooking oil in the chocolate so it stays smooth as it cools.

I thought the little bows were a pretty touch.

I made these pizza roll ups and pretzels dipped in white chocolate and sprinked with cashous, which were an easy addition to the table

Pizza Roll Ups
3 sheets puff pasty
70g pizza sauce
150g bacon diced
3 cups of grated tasty cheese
1 egg lightly beaten to wash pastry

Preheat oven to 180C/350C
Line 2-3 baking trays with baking paper.
Spread pizza sauce over the thawed pastry.
Spread bacon evenly over the pasty sheets
Spread 1 cup of cheese per pastry sheet evenly
Roll up tightly.
Cut into 8-10 pieces per roll
Brush the rolls with egg wash before separating
Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown

I also had a bowl of strawberries on the table to counter all the junk.

As for the cake pops ingredients,  they are as above
For the Truffle
1 moist cake mix
1/2 can of Betty Croker chocolate frosting
For the decoration
Choclate melts
Hundreds and thousands
cake pop sticks

Make the cake and then crumble by hand.

add the 1/2 the tin of frosting and mix together with your hands.  This bit can get messy. Roll the balls using about a heaped teaspoon of mixture,
Lay the balls out on lined baking.  Dip your stick in the chocolate before inserting to help the cake stay on the stick.  Insert the stick about half way into the ball.

Do not insert the cake pop into melted chocolate to coat it, rather hold the cake pop over your bowl and drizzle it with chocolate that has been cooled slightly, using a dessert spoon.  This will help to avoid any sticky messes with your chocolate mixture and the ball falling into it.

Don't forget the dash of cooking oil in your drizzling chocolate as I mentioned above, so the chocolate does not turn gluggy as it cools.

Sprinkle with hundreds and thousands and stand on baking paper to dry.  To dress, tie a ribbon around the stick and serve once the chocolate is hard.
I made these the day before the party and stored them in the fridge, to no ill effect. but if you are in cooler climates being out of the fridge is a better way of avoiding moisture, which can damage the chocolate.

I used a collections of bottles and jars for the drinks

And lets just say this little party girl was very happy with the whole set up.

Happy Birthday you sweet little thing.
