Fashion Feature For the Digital Parents Bloggers Conference

Do you want to see what I'm wearing to the Digital Parents Bloggers' conference?   You know you do!!!!! I have been talking a bit about how I've had a run of luck lately.  Well I won a ticket to the conference, in a giveaway, Sonia at Life Love and Hiccups was running several weeks ago.  I was under the impression that I never win anything, but I threw my hat in the ring, saying to myself, if I win this ticket, it will be a sign I am meant to go.  Sure enough, my number came up.  Number 3 again actually.

But of course once I won, the organisational logistics became enormous.  The big Beach House Brat has a local sailing regatta on that weekend and of course Mr Beach House would not re organise his life to accommodate my needs or my little girl's.  Picture it, he walks through the door and says things like, 'I'm going to a world championships in San Francisco next month'.  I say 'Oh really' because I know there is nothing I can do to change that.  The month swings around, he wakes up, packs his bag and walks out knowing that everything will be fine.  I am very good at holding the fort and he knows it.  I do everything house related apart from taking out the garbage, mowing the lawn, badly and band rehearsal drop off at 7.45am, two mornings a week.  So lets just say, not much changes when he goes away.

If I go away, which let me tell you is almost never, the organisation required is astronomical.  But not this time baby, I'm just going to walk out like he does.  As long as the kids are alive upon my return, I don't care what happens.  This time, I'm putting me first and that is why today ladies, we are talking fashion.

It's been along time since I've been interested in fashion.  I used to be a professional and had a wardrobe full of gorgeous business suits, evening dreses, shoes, matching handbags and scarves.  But being in a mummy daze and some 15 kilos heavier than I was in my professional life, saw me reaching for the jeans, T shirt and Birkenstocks most days of the week.  Now I have lost alot of the baby weight, I feel like I am back and the upshot of that is I'm taking more of an interest in fashion.  I'm starting to take extra care with my appearance,  some of my old gear is fitting me again and some new budget gear has made its way into my wardrobe.

The weather for March, almost April, is controversial in Melbourne, so I have added a coat and will be able to go with a longer sleeve T shirt and some layering, if the weather turns cold.  What I am concentrating on here, are pieces that I can fold into small squares, which will come out of my luggage needing no ironing and this taupe and pink embossed skirt and black T shirt are both capable of that.

I am accessorising with elegant pieces which may change on the day.  I intend on wearing baguette diamond studded earrings, but couldn't get a good enough shot of them to publish. and this little pearl bracelet Mr Beach House gave me.  I'll also be wearing black pumps with this day time outfit.

The sunglasses are via Filtrate eyewear.  My lovely friend Dee gave these to me, as a gift for suggesting they participate in the Avalon Market day last November, where they sold lots and I have to tell you they are fabulous.  Light weight, very stylish and you don't need to spend the weekly food budget on them to get the look.  I chose from the Onasis range because I love that Jackie O look.

Both the bag and the coat I purchased from my mum's neighbour, who works in fashion.  She had a fabulous garage sale and was selling a whole lot of new stuff and throw away prices.....the luck continues.

There is a gala dinner involved with the conference and here's what I plan to wear to that.  It's rather bling bling, but I love to shimmer a little now and then.  I've gone for a grey pearl necklace and earrings and diamante studded shoes and clutch.

This evening dress was another garage sale find at Linda's.  The shoulders are covered by little capped sleeves, so you can either scrunch them up to create more of a tank top look or have them as little shoulder caps.

The shoes are old faithfuls and have a low stilleto heal.  High enough for me though.  So that's it from me on how to look your best on a budget, for an interstate blogging conference, mixing it up for business and pleasure.

Today I am partying here

  7. Is this a test blog post? If so you passed with flying colors...literally! You will look smashing at the conference too bad Mr Beach House won't be there to see it! You need to take pics of you in those gorgeous outfits. And yes...you just walk out....it takes 2 to have children and you've already done most of the work for him so let him see how easy (NOT!) it is for awhile. He'll appreciate you more or else he won't be there when you get back. Just kidding!LOL! Have fun!

  15. You are hilarious, but say it like it is. Same story for me with the Hubby, and me a...long time ago, with the work part. I did that with the other gizillions things our 2 daughters were involved in. To get back to your packing. Great job, it is so nice to be able to have go to pieces, and not drag our whole wardrobe to go with us. And I swear, scarves, jewelry, hats, jackets are life savers. Have fun on your trip.
