Beachy Vintage

I'm constantly on the look out for vintage props for the cook book....even more now than usual.  My mum is always very generous and allowed me to have a look through some more cupboards and her shed over the weekend.  I found this gorgeous wooden box.  I think  my dad must have ripped one of the panels off so he could see what was in it on the shelf, which makes it perfect for displaying stuff.  I am thinking a shot with the box filled with fresh produce would be fantastic for the book.

A rummage through the shed and I found my dad's body surfing hand surfer from the 1960's, some jute  and this fishing wire dolly.

Mum's cupboards revealed some lovely chippy enamel ware, some beautiful vintage cutlery and a gorgeous old carving set.

And then there was this stunning old linen and lace cloth.  I love its sea glass green colour.

My house is groaning under the weight of all the props at the moment and here's how I have them styled.  This Chinese orchid is the gift that keeps on giving.  Mel from Georgica Pond brought it with her when she was here to lunch some months back and it is still divine.

I've got shells under little domes, and in vintage pineapples.  The dome came off a little cheese platter at the local charity store

I love the rustic plank they are sitting on.

These banana leaves last forever and give a nice tropical feel in Winter.  The house is full of greenery as that's all the garden is producing right now.

This little washboard was used in a lovely shot for the cook book.  I'll show you how I used it soon.

I love rust and vintage  in a Beach House.  The old Singer sewing machine is rusty and looks great on the porch with some galvanised mini buckets full of green.

And every Beach House needs some blue bottles, don't you think?

  2. Love the vintage silver. I would use it everyday. It's hard
to find here and very pricey if you do. Like what you did
with the old sewing machine. Looks great.

  6. Can't believe yours is still alive and flowering! I have one and managed to slowly kill it, so that the last leaf is about to drop, but it had fake flowers added long ago. Your styling is looking wonderful. When I was styling I always used Peppergreen Trading Co in Berrima for the best vintage props ever. All the stylists did including Donna Hay. I hope it's still operating. Worth a trip if so.

  8. Seriously your parents have the best treasures, I would be spending every weekend going through their cupboards and garage if I were you.
Dont let me forget to tell you about a dream I had two nights ago and you were in it. It was in the midst of a fever, but your house was in the most divine position overlooking Bilgola Beach, like almost right on the beach, but it wasnt actually Bilgola Beach... Im rambling. I'll fill you in next week.
