Easy Apple Crumble That's Really Delicious



This was possibly one of the most delicious apple crumbles I have ever tasted.  Just the right amount of sweetness and those oates and cinnamon just round out the flavours to make this the ultimate comfort food. 

It really does nothing for the waistline but a girl's got to have a bit of pleasure in these trying times.

In my last post I was saying that the apples were a bit yucky in the box of fruit that I ordered online.  That was 2 weeks ago and we are still getting through it.    We generally go for Pink Ladies and these ones were nothing of the sort. The kids just refused to eat them.  But in these uncertain times financially we are turning over every cent so there was no way I was going to waste them.  Accordingly, I decided to make this Apple Crumble just to use them up.  Easy, on budget, a little bit healthy and just so yummy.  What's not to love?



Easy Apple Crumble

Apple Filling

1kg any apples cored and peeled and sliced
1 tbspn plain flour
1/2 cup White Sugar
2 tbspns lemon juice
1/2 tspn ground cinnamon



Crumble Topping
1 Cup Rolled Oats
1 Cup Plain Flour
1 Cup Brown Sugar
1/2 Tspn Baking Powder
1 Tspn Ground Cinnamon
1/2 Cup or 125g of Melted Butter

For the Apple Filling
1. Put a small amount of water into a pot so that it just covers the bottom.
2. Place apples into the pot and cook over a medium heat for 5-10 minutes stirring occasionally so they do not stick to the bottom.
3. Add sugar, flour, lemon juice, cinnamon and stir.
4.  Cover pot and turn down to a low heat and simmer for another 10-15 minutes until apple softens and the juices thicken.
5. Decant into a ceramic oven-ready dish 23cmx15cm or 9"x6" and set aside.

For the Crumble Topping
1. Combine all the ingredients in a bowl and stir to combine.
2.Top the apple mixture

Preheat over to 180C or 350F
Bake for 30 minutes until golden brown

Serve on individual plates with vanilla icecream
