Hello Beach Dwellers
Want to have a little look at what's hot at IKEA right now? I believe it's best to leave it about 6 months between visits because in that time, they make over the whole store. This time I was mildly shocked at what they had come up with. There's a definite pink theme running through their decorating. They've bought it out of the bedroom and it's gone household mainstream. Woaw!!!!
When I was a teen and my mother encouraged me to start a 'glory box', a completely crazy notion looking back with the benefit of hindsight. Why? because I filled it with pink wine glasses and pink plant holders and the like. Homewares that had long been thrown over before I was married. Heck they didn't even make it into my first apartment.
Anyhoo, it seems had I held onto them long enough, they may have got a run at the Beach House this season. Not likely, I am fine with pink in the bedroom and in the odd vintage china tea set, but doubt I could live with it en mass in the kitchen and living room on a daily basis.
I did catch myself standing back and ooohing and arhing at these rooms. I am sure you would agree, they are very very pretty, but it is just a fad turned on by the best brains in marketing to keep us buying. One I'm not falling for this time. Ahem, well not much!!!
So I wouldn't be tempted to fill up the trolley with stuff that I didn't need in the accessories section of the store, I loaded it up with precious live cargo instead.
You can see that with me old habits die hard. I couldn't go past the red and blue nautical stripe rug there on the trolley, but apart from a few pretty paper plates, cups and napkins and some silicon baking bits in readiness for party season, I didn't weaken. I got out of there for under 60 bucks and still feel like I bought nothing.
There were more pretty pinks
And there was a definite Domestic Goddess feel to the place. Loved the check apron, but resisted. Mr Beach House, might hit on me and we couldn't have that.
This guy was even dressed to match. You know it's a a fad, which will pass when this happens.
Thankfully my favourite blue and white gets a big run as well. Not sure about the rug under the bed there. They clearly need a new stylist on board. Hello IKEA!!!!!
Infact blue, black and white is hot right now. Perhaps is was an attempt at that!!!!
They had some lovely blue and white cushion action too. Think ruffles, nautical stripe and toile, all the usual suspects, but they looked lovely together.
Here are my most coveted items this trip, none of which came home with me, as I need a bigger house and have no room for anymore stuff. I loved this black mirror. If only I had somewhere to put her.
I meant to pick up one of these in the accessory section of the store for the Beach House Brat's gallery wall but forgot. It's actually plastic, but the right price and very sweet.
Loved this for my kitchen. It was melamine, but I don't need it.
And although butterflies have been hot for a long time, they have now made it into the IKEA store.
So that's it for this week desirables. Have a wonderful weekend and if you are planning on a trip to IKEA, this weekend, I wish you a fun trip.
This post was sponsored in its entirety by Desire Empire. I just thought you guys would like it.

Oh I am so jealous, I wish I lived closer to IKEA!
ReplyDeleteWill be doing a fly in fly out trip when we come back from Norfolk Island, thankfully they open until 7pm and we have to drive past to get home!
I was there the other day and even if you get there right on 10am it's still busy.

Well, we don't have an IKEA here, yet, but it was fun looking at your photos. The black mirror was nice. Thanks for sharing your images and have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Sandi
I think we have 1 IKEA store here in New Zealand - yet to visit it, one day :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the Ikea update. I'm planning a trip next week and will be sure to check our their blue and white goodies - a favourite colour combination of mine too! Ange
ReplyDeleteI love the pink living room! In our last apartment, we had the IKEA Ektorp sectional with camel color slipcovers, with pink floral accent pillows, and a pink floral Ektorp seat. Loved it, and my husband was fine with it (he's fine with whatever I do, as long as he has his own retreat).
ReplyDeleteWhen we bought this house, I went with a blue and white theme in the living room, and the pink accessories made their way into my crafting/blogging room.
I might have a pink living room again one day, but in the meantime, I think I need a visit to IKEA this weekend...
Thanks for sharing Carolyn...I haven't been to Ikea for about 6 months, so a trip is long overdue. Some beautiful things happening there by the look :)

Ooh they have finally gone tropo over pink florals, still love a floral. Love that mirror!!! Shame its taken them so long with the butterflies.. yes a stylist would be very handy. thanks for that, my last Ikea visit was ages ago.
ReplyDeleteYowza! I'm a big fan of pink, but I'm not sure that I'd want it all over my house like that. I KNOW my husband wouldn't!!! The only room with pink in it here is my dressing room where boys are not allowed! :-) It was just announced earlier this week that we are getting an IKEA store here in the Kansas City, MO (USA) area!!!!!! That is such welcome news because the closest one otherwise is more than 400 miles away. The store isn't set to open until the Fall of 2014, but I'm sure it will be worth the wait. Thanks for sharing these fun photos. SO funny with the guy in the pink shirt! Have a good weekend!
ReplyDeleteGreat post of IKEA. It really puts me in the mood to shop.
ReplyDeleteThanks. Some things caught my eye. I'll be checking out IKEA.
I am not sure why you are promoting IKEA. The products fall apart, the founder was a Nazi for 10 years and still promotes severe policies through his foundations, and nothing is made in the US. Please consider what you are doing. Thanks, Betty @mytea22@gmail.com

DeleteI am probably the only person in the whole wide world who has never been in an Ikea store. :) And I am with you....although I love pink (and everyone says pink is my best color) I would never want a whole room of it, unless it's a little girl's room (just ask my grand-daughter). I do love that white room and your blues and reds! Have a fabulous weekend Desire Empire. And I love your precious cargo! :)
ReplyDeleteNever been to ikea also, as we don't have them in nz.

I could live in Ikea, there are always so many great ideas! Its nice to see what the Ikea stores look like on your side of the world ;-) thanks for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteWell I just want to know in what aisle you found the two cuties in the cart ! I wouldn't pass them by :)
ReplyDeleteAll that pink just goes to show you can't sink pink ! at least not for long.
Great picks! I love the subtle pinks placed here & there throughout the rooms. Tee
ReplyDeleteWell, I can tell that a stop to IKEA is in order! Stopping by from Pink Saturday.
ReplyDeleteOOhh I adore that metal iron bed they have there, may have to make the long trek there and check it out!
ReplyDeleteOh I am so EXCITED, IKEA just announced on Thursday that they are building their 7th store in the US in Kansas. It is 5 minutes from my house. I've always loved their merchandize and I really like what you featured today. The completion date is 2014. Have a great Sunday.

When I read this, I did a double take - IKEA already has 38 stores in the US :) - I couldn't imagine only 7 stores in the US!
DeleteNever been in an Ikea either. I love PINK and have lots of it in my house. My hubby doesn't mind at all.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been either but IDEA is coming to the Kansas City area so we are all so excited.
ReplyDeleteThanks Carolyn~ Now I know where my next paycheck is going!!
ReplyDeleteHPS!!

If only I had kept my 1990's pink walls and floral couches I would have been back in style. Well not quite!
ReplyDeleteThose were beautiful. I love all the blue furniture.
ReplyDeleteOh....I would be in such big trouble if there was an IKEA close to me, Carolyn! lol! I adore shopping there. So many creative ideas! And I'm loving that they are truly making a huge attempt at keeping up with what they see out in blogland. :)

I'm sad I'm so far from an IKEA but now I'm seriously craving an IKEA fix! Thanks for all the photos though, looks like some great new stuff. Visiting from Chic on a Shoestring link party. Hope you'll come visit my site :)
ReplyDeleteI love all the white at Ikea--and now that they are adding pink it makes me like them even more!
ReplyDeleteLove IKEA and since I've been blog reading I hate them - you guys pay so much less than us in Austalia, I actually just posted about that the other day :) Oh but the pinks are so very pretty :)
ReplyDeleteWe don't have an IKEA nearby and I have never been to one. I was able to live with that until NOW! Thanks a lot. I mean it, thanks, love seeing what they have.
